The marine biology major is designed for students who wish to prepare for positions in the area of marine or aquatic biology or who plan graduate study in these fields. The standard courses for the major are offered on the university campus, with the specialized courses being taken through the Dauphin Island Sea Laboratory (DISL) near Mobile, Alabama. Students interested in this major should consult early with the chair of the department concerning courses, prerequisites, special arrangements, and costs. Requirements include a prescribed minor in chemistry and additional coursework in mathematics and physics.

  • Complete the UNDERGRADUATE APPLICATION along with a non-refundable $35 processing fee.
  • Have your most recent official high school transcript sent to the Office of Admissions.

  • Have your official ACT or SAT scores sent to the Office of Admissions, if these scores are not on your official high school transcript. You can request these at www.act.org  or www.collegeboard.com
  • If you have taken classes for dual-credit at another college or university, have your official transcripts sent to UNA.

Oportunidades de financiamiento/becas

The University of North Alabama participates in both the Federal Pell Grant and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant programs, in addition to the Alabama Student Assistance Program (ASAP).

Unlike loans, grants are not repaid unless you are awarded funds incorrectly or withdraw from school prior to the scheduled end of term. All federal grants are awarded to students based on financial need.

Prerrequisitos

Admission Requirements for Fall 2020

*Unconditional Admission
  • ACT of 18 or above (composite) or new SAT of 960 and
  • High School Grade-Point Average of 2.25 (4.0 scale) on an overall unweighted scale**
  • At least 13 high school units distributed as follows:
    • English: (4 approved units)
    • Mathematics: algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, statistics or calculus (2 units)
    • Natural or Physical Science: one biological and one physical science (2 units)
    • Social Studies: one unit American/United States history and at least 1/2 unit in government, with the balance from world history, state history, economics, geography, psychology, political science or anthropology. (3 units)
    • Other: foreign language, computer sciences, or any of the courses listed in the above areas which are not used to meet requirements in those areas (2 units)

*Conditional Admission

  • ACT of 16 or 17 (composite) or new SAT of 880 and
  • High school Grade-Point Average of 2.00 on an overall unweighted scale**
  • At least 11 high school units as distributed above
* High school graduates who have never attended college and who have been out of high school for 5 or more years, as well as those who are more than 25 years old, must comply only with the GPA requirement and are exempt from the standardized test requirement.
** In lieu of the high school transcript, successful completion of the GED is acceptable.
